Developers Getting Excited About The New Kindle

The introduction of the Kindle Fire has seemingly heated up the running for the king of Android tablets.

For the time being, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is the most popular option on the market for developers around the world. However, in North America, this isn't exactly the case, as the Kindle Fire has jumped in front. Appcelerator conducted a survey of developers and asked them an array of questions having to to with Amazon's new value-priced tablet, and they results may or may not surprise you. It was only by a single percentage point, but in North America, 49% of developers said that they were interested in developing for the Kindle Fire, while 48% said they were interested in the Galaxy tab. The next two on the list were the Motorola Xoom with 37% and the Barnes & Noble Nook with 24%. On the question of what excites them the most about the new tablet, the vast majority of people cited its price, which is a measly $199, which is chump change when it comes to the tablet market (the majority of them are pushing almost $400).

Everything isn't perfect for the new tablet, however, as the survey takers also asked the subjects what worried them the most about the tablet. The most given answer was that is will lead to more fragmentation within the market. This isn't really anything new though, as the problem of fragmentation has been something that has plagued the Android Market for some time, and will continue to do so until Google finds some way to standardize the way that things are run. However, that is a story for another day, and we still have to note that the next most popular answer in the survey is the lack of typical features, such as cameras and GPS capabilities. Take a look at all of the charts and analysis at the Appcelerator website.

One more interesting fact that I found about the Kindle Fire is that it's launch has given Android applications a major boost. This is because the apps are now being sold not only on the Android Marketplace, but also on Amazon.com It actually makes a lot of sense why when you think about just how popular Amazon actually is. After all of the bad publicity that Android has been getting with all of the malware reports, this could be just the thing that the OS needs to get things rolling again.
